I may have opened a can of worms when I brought up copyright while answering Victor’s question in Q&A Ep.61.

This question about photography copyright comes from Generalissimo Genesis who was wondering:

“About the copyright thing.
Let’s say that i bought a photo of me from a friend-photographer or photographer, then i decide to enlarge it and when they see it, they kinda threaten to sue me. What should my response be?”

The short answer here is that the photographer has a right to be angry because you did violate his copyright by taking the print and enlarging it yourself.

That’s assuming the most common scenario, where a person has purchased a print of a photo from a photographer. There are definitely other circumstances where that could actually be okay, which I discuss in the video.

Your camera is an amazing tool, but it’s no good to you if you don’t know how to use it!
